BreadTalk continues its less plastic usage through a 3-month pilot initiative in collaboration with a ground-up community group, led by a group of passionate youths with a mission to encourage a zero-waste lifestyle. Five BreadTalk stores were selected to kickstart the #onelessbag initiative.
The initiative includes the roll-out of a newly-designed food bag that eliminates the need for an additional plastic carrier bag. To further discourage the use of plastic carrier bags, a surcharge of $0.10 per bag was implemented and 100% of the money collected was donated to Community Chest.
The newly-designed food bag can contain up to three breads, and features a handle
to allow ease of carrying and eliminates the need for an additional plastic carrier bag.
As part of the effort, BreadTalk also conducted an online survey to get customers’ feedback from this initiative. 82% of the respondents welcomes the move despite the 10 cents surcharge for each plastic carrier bag.
